Personal Branding by Mrs. Ni Luh Caosa

On 30th July we had another guest speaker, Mrs Osa, who taught us further about personal branding. She is currently working as the Chief Communication Officer of The Yudhoyono Institute .

In the first session she told us about people's perceptions in recognizing brands. People recognize branding by their shapes and colors. An example of pretty distinguishable brand is nike with their tick shaped logo.

Personal branding involves:

- reputation - style

- look

- attitude

- skill

Building a personal brand

Next she explained how to apply and build someone's or your personal branding. You need to:

- make yourself be recognized for what you want to be

- Be consistent

- Persistent while building/maintaining it

- Long term commitment

Here is a simple diagram she gave us on how to develop and start thinking about your own personal branding

There are also 2 types of personal branding:

- natural

- by design

A natural personal branding comes from the behavior and how people perceive the individual. For example, AHY, he is naturally handsome and also a military guy.

By design means the personal branding him design his outfit or approach to people to make it his personal brand. For example, AHY wore a military suit or a capture of him approaching the people.

Then Ms Osa explained deeper into personal branding specifically in the marketing area.

For the logo of the branding, the fonts should be specific to show the image of the brand. Graphic designers are responsible of choosing the fonts that suit the image of the individual. For example, the AHY logo gives off the image of strong.

Next is the tagline. Taglines are important for people to recognize your brand in a special field. For example, people know that "I'm lovin' it" is a mc donalds tagline. This will attract people more.

She also told us about the tagline changes in the AHY institute. They changed from SIAP to S14P to AKU DEMOKRAT. They changed the tagline to the events happening currently. The SIAP tagline is when AHY is volunteering as a candidate for president, S14P is the tagline during the cabinet time and they got number 14, AKU DEMOKRAT is their current tagline.

The tagline changes but the fonts does not. It needs to be consistent even when there are changes so that people can still connect and recognize them.

The design will not show if there is no marketing team. In order for a brand to be recognized, you must market it to the public by using social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, Website and many more. Videos are also advisable. In AHY, they have all the social media mentioned above. For the campaign, they also created a video, dance video and a song to approach the younger generations.

SUDAH DONG

other than that Ms Osa and her team also helped it creating the brand Sudah Dong which is a campaign to stop bullying. Sudah Dong did both online and offline personal branding. She also mentioned that in order to be effective it needs to have CONSISTENT STRATEGY.

Lastly, she pointed out the conclusion of the presentation by giving us some points:

1. Consistency and persistent because it is a long term process.

2. Build personal brand.

3. Put online.

4. Rebrand

She showed us a quotes which says,

" You are the storyteller of your own life....and you can create your own legend or not"

This experience was really inspiring for me. I got more knowledge on how to build my own personal branding. She gave us tips, tricks, and steps on how to start developing our own brand.
